Daesung Celtic Enersys Recalls Tankless Water Heaters Due to Fire Hazard

The information below is a recall notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) announcing a recall of Daesung Celtic Enersys Tankless Water Heaters. Specific model numbers for the recalled product are listed on the CPSC website. Venmar Ventilation has expanded its voluntary recall of its air exchangers with and without heat recovery. Venmar has received 4 new reports in relation to this recall expansion. In the previous recalls, Venmar reported 26 incidents for a total of 30 in the United States and Canada. All incidents resulted in fires and property damage. No injuries have been reported. 

The motor in the air exchangers can overheat, posing a fire hazard. The recall involves air exchangers with and without heat recovery sold under different brand names. Brand names and model numbers can be located on the unit’s rating plate or imprinted on the side of the unit. The involved air exchangers were sold at heating and building supply distributors nationwide from January 2002 through May 2008 for between $700-$2,500. 

This recall presents a potential avenue of recovery about which subrogation professionals should be aware when evaluating fires in residential and commercial losses.
