Disciplined in Sophisticated Defense and Insurance Litigation

Stefan Alvarez is an Associate in our Tampa office. He was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and attended Tampa Jesuit High School. Stefan obtained his Bachelor’s degree from The University of South Florida and earned his Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law.  In 2008, after receiving his Bachelor’s degree, Stefan moved to Washington, D.C. where he worked as a legislative aide for United States Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) during his tenure as Chairman of the U.S. House Republican Study Committee.

While in law school, Stefan interned for the Honorable Judge William P. Levens in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida at a time when one of the first Engle Progeny Tobacco Litigation cases went to trial in front of Judge Levens with a then record demand of $10 billion in punitive damages.  Through Stetson Law’s Veteran’s Appellate Rights Clinic, Stefan represented individual veterans with disability claims or appeals in the Veteran Administration, the Board of Veterans Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for Veteran Claims.

Upon graduation from law school, Stefan worked as the Senior Manager of Legal Research and Legislative Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.  During his time at the U.S. Chamber, he was responsible for managing components of various international initiatives, including the strategic development and implementation of research, communications, and advocacy efforts in Europe, the Asia-Pacific, Canada, and Latin America.  In addition, he also handled a range of domestic issues related to shareholder activism and campaign finance, including legislative and regulatory measures at the state and federal level.

After several years with the U.S. Chamber, Stefan’s passion for the rule of law and his desire to better serve the people of Florida brought him back to his hometown of Tampa, FL to become an Assistant State Attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit.  As an Assistant State Attorney, he managed a case load of 400 to 600 active cases with charges ranging from Domestic Battery, Assault, Theft and DUI, amongst others.  Stefan argued countless pre-trial motions and tried nearly a dozen jury trials to verdict.

Following his time at the State Attorney’s Office, Stefan joined a small consumer protection firm, where he litigated hundreds of consumer claims in state and federal court with a focus on the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (“TCPA”), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”), and the Florida Consumer Collections Practices Act (“FCCPA”).
