Disciplined in Sophisticated Defense and Insurance Litigation

Derek Lenzen is an Associate at Butler. Derek works in our Tampa office and practices primarily in the area of First-Party Property Coverage. He defends insurance companies against first-party property breach of contract lawsuits and declaratory judgment actions for insurance coverage.  These lawsuits often involve claims of water, fire, storm, or sinkhole damage at residential or commercial properties.  Many lawsuits that Derek handles involve assignments of benefits (“AOBs”).

Derek is a native of South Florida and attended Florida State University as an undergraduate. In 2011, he earned his Bachelor of Music, triple majoring in music performance, creative writing, and commercial music with a minor in business. After graduating, Derek worked at an insurance defense law firm in South Florida for three years.

Derek left Florida to attend Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his Juris Doctor and was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 2017. While in law school, Derek interned with four Circuit Judges in Tennessee’s 21st Judicial District. Before being admitted to the Florida Bar in 2018, Derek volunteered at Legal Aid Service of Broward County. In his spare time, Derek enjoys maintaining his talents as a dancer, a singer, and a classically trained musician.
