Lauren Vagnoni is an Associate at Butler who works in our Tampa office. She specializes in both First and Third-Party Automobile Coverage and Bad Faith claims.

Lauren graduated cum laude from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2010. After gaining work experience, she returned to school at the Florida State University College of Law, graduating in 2015. While in law school, Lauren was a member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society and the Florida State University College of Law Moot Court team. She served as an executive board member of the Moot Court team during both her second and third years of law school, and earned the Nat Stern Award for Outstanding Service to the team in 2014. Lauren also gained experience as a Certified Legal Intern for the State Attorney’s Office in Hillsborough County between her second and third year of law school, where she tried several bench and jury trials.

Prior to joining Butler, Lauren worked as an associate attorney at an insurance defense firm in Saint Petersburg, Florida, specializing in the defense of first-party property claims.

June 22, 2017 BLOG POSTBottini v. GEICO: Parties to Bad Faith Action Not Bound by $30.8 million-dollar Verdict Without Appellate Review

For years, when a bad faith action was brought pursuant to a jury verdict in excess of policy limits in the underlying UM claim, everyone assumed the jury verdict was binding in the bad faith action. Then, Bottini v. GEICO resulted in a $30.8 million-dollar verdict – over 600 times the policy’s UM limit of $50,000! GEICO appealed, and the Second DCA concluded that even if GEICO were correct that errors affected the jury’s computation of damages, any such errors were harmless in the context of this case.
