Sonya Nazzal is an Associate in the Tampa office practicing in first-party property insurance defense.

Born and raised in Orlando, she received her Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida in 2015. From there, Sonya received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Stetson University College of Law in 2019. During her time at Stetson, she found her passion for litigation and advocacy and earned the Victor O. Wehle Award, recognizing her as the student with the highest grade designation in Trial Advocacy.

Prior to joining Butler, Sonya served the people of the State of Florida as an Assistant State Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit for almost five years. As an Assistant State Attorney, she honed her skills as a zealous advocate by handling thousands of cases from various stages of litigation. As a felony attorney, Sonya handled murders, child abuse, sex-related offenses, and other violent and non-violent felonies. During her time at the State Attorney’s Office, she litigated approximately 15 jury trials to a verdict.

Outside of her legal practice, Sonya enjoys relaxing on the beach, attending country concerts, and spending time with her dog Ollie.
